Purse handed three-match ban

13 April 2012

West Brom captain Darren Purse has been suspended for three matches after being found guilty of violent conduct.

The Football Association charged Purse on Tuesday after he elbowed team-mate Riccardo Scimeca in the face during the 3-1 defeat at Newcastle United.

Purse appeared to lash out at Andy O'Brien but missed, catching former Leicester and Aston Villa player Scimeca instead.

Purse will also serve a separate one-match ban after being sent off for two unrelated bookable offences at St James' Park, ruling him out for the whole of October.

Purse will miss his side's games against Bolton at home on Saturday, plus the vital clashes against fellow Premiership newcomers Norwich and Crystal Palace and finally the glamour home match against Chelsea.

He will be available for the Baggies' first game in November, away to Southampton.

He joins fellow defender Neil Clement on the sidelines after the former Chelsea left-back was given a three-match ban earlier this week for his involvement in the fracas against Fulham.
