QPR bid for young Arsenal star Quincy

Queens Park Rangers have enquired about bringing Arsenal starlet Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to the club on loan. The 18-year-old Dutch winger has proved a leading light in the next generation of junior Gunners who Arsene Wenger has used in this season's Carling Cup run.

Manager Ian Holloway wanted him before he scored one and set up Arsenal's other two goals as a substitute in the 3-1 defeat of Everton last week.

Owusu-Abeyie had an equally devastating effect when coming on from the bench in the 2-1 victory at Manchester City in the previous round.

Holloway was hoping the youngster would become his second Highbury loan signing following 20-year-old defender Frankie Simek, who has just completed a month's spell at Loftus Road.

But chairman Bill Power admitted: "We were interested but I wouldn't have thought we will get him after his performance in the Cup the other night."

However, Holloway's bid to strengthen his squad did meet with some success yesterday.

Midfielder Adam Miller has been signed for a 'nominal fee' from conference club Aldershot. The 22-year-old boyhood Rangers fan impressed Holloway with his performance in Aldershot's 3-0 win against Rangers' reserves last Tuesday.

Miller said: "Ian Holloway seems like a really genuine guy and I'm looking forward to pushing on and repaying the faith he's shown in me. I'm over the moon and a bit gobsmacked to tell the truth.

"I'm a massive QPR fan; I used to come here all the time when we were in the Premiership. My Dad is QPR through and through and I'm sure he'll be glad he can come and watch me here now rather than at Aldershot."

Meanwhile, two lifelong Queens Park Rangers fans are poised to buy out former chairman Chris Wright's 14 per cent stake in the club. Wright has agreed to sell his shareholding, believed to be worth around £650,000, after months of negotiations with the QPR board.

Standard Sport understands that Wright will keep only about half the proceeds from his stake.

The London Wasps owner will hand over the other 50 per cent of his shares for nothing "as a PR gesture" and sever his links with the cash-strapped club.

Two wealthy Rangers supporters, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, have been in talks with the QPR board about buying the shares.

The deal is set to be completed "within days, rather than weeks", according to Rangers chairman Power. He added: "Chris Wright has thought about it and is willing to sell his shares."

Only last month Wright appeared reluctant to relinquish his stake in the club.

He said at the time: "My shares are not for sale. I haven't even considered it. I am not keen to sell. I would only sell if it was to someone who was in a position to be beneficial to the club."

Last night, Wright was still publicly insisting: "I still have my shares. No deal has been offered and no deal is about to be completed."

But QPR are confident that the sale will go ahead and, if it does, the two fans will own the third biggest stake in the club.

Monaco-based consortium Wanlock is the club's majority shareholder with 20 per cent, ahead of director Gianni Paladini, who holds 15 per cent.
