Raikkonen's antics are snow joke

Raikkonen: Won snowmobile race in home country
14 April 2012

Kimi Raikkonen has risked Ferrari's wrath by entering a "snowmobile" race - calling himself James Hunt. The 27-year-old won the 24k Enduro Sprint at the Kopparberg King in his native Finland at the weekend.

Ferrari say they are relaxed about Raikkonen's hard-drinking lifestyle, but eyebrows will be raised by his antics given that his rivals are quietly preparing for the first grand prix of 2007 in Melbourne on Sunday.

Raikkonen entered his 58 Lunx MaMo under Hunt's name before his real identity was confirmed on the results' sheet. Why he entered as Hunt, Britain's flamboyant world champion from 1976, is unclear.

Raikkonen completed the course in 19 minutes 38.25 seconds - ahead of runner-up Pasi Hietalo, who finished in 19min 59.68sec.

Meanwhile, the man he replaced, Michael Schumacher, has admitted that he told Ferrari boss Jean Todt that he wanted to retire after the first race of last year in Bahrain.

The seven-time world champion, 38, added: "I personally would have preferred to have announced it sooner, but Ferrari traditionally does that sort of thing at Monza. I didn't have any problem with it. At least I wouldn't have to keep saying ridiculous things or evade questions."
