Ramos makes Berbatov plea

Juande Ramos has asked Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to do everything possible to keep Dimitar Berbatov at White Hart Lane after the striker's four-goal haul against Reading.

Berbatov, who proved the difference in a crazy game that Spurs edged 6-4, has always insisted he is happy at the club but has persistently been linked with a move.

Ramos said: "The chairman knows I want Berbatov to stay. If it was up to me we would not lose him but there are different circumstances and factors that we have to take into account such as the player's opinion and feelings.

He added: "If it was up to me he would continue with us.

"He made a great contribution against Reading. Magnificent, he is a very valuable player for us.

"But I cannot assure that he is going to stay at the club because the chairman has to decide that."

Berbatov opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a tap-in from Robbie Keane's cross.

Reading took the lead three times, with Ivar Ingimarsson on the scoresheet and Dave Kitson grabbing a double and boss Steve Coppell was left frustrated with his side's charitable defending.

"It's obvious we have to score six or seven away from home to get a result," said Coppell. "It's massively disappointing and it feels like there is a hole in your life almost."
