Ranieri 'could sue Chelsea'

Claudio Ranieri could sue Chelsea if he is forced out of Stamford Bridge, according to the League Managers' Association.

The LMA's boss John Barnwell says he has been in touch with the Italian and claim their member could have a case for constructive dismissal if he quits.

Chief executive Peter Kenyon held clear-the-air talks with Ranieri on Wednesday, but no decision will be made on his future until after the Champions League semi-final with Monaco.

Barnwell believes the Italian could take Chelsea to an employment tribunal if he resigns over his treatment.

"He has been put in an intolerable position and could have a case for constructive dismissal," said Barnwell.

"Chelsea appear to be openly looking at other managers. If Claudio was looking for another job and doing the same thing he would be sacked.

"They have handled it poorly and come out of it badly, but Claudio still wants to see the job through. We have been in touch several times and if he requires any assistance, he knows we are behind him.

"Claudio has handled the situation with professionalism, massive dignity and some humour."

Ranieri has three years of a £40,000-a-week deal to run at Chelsea, but the club have been linked with moves for a string of top foreign coaches.
