Read ready for Test chance

14 April 2012

Chris Read is looking forward to testing himself at the highest level again after winning back his England place.

Wicketkeeper Read, out of the frame for the past two years after being dropped in favour of Geraint Jones, knew he had to work on his batting if he was to regain his position. The 27-year-old Nottinghamshire player knows his batting and wicketkeeping will be under the microscope again from ball one - but he hopes he is well prepared for that examination.

"It's magnificent. I'm overjoyed to be back and a little bit surprised. I hope to be there for a while," Read told Sky Sports.

"There is always pressure when you are playing for England - it is just something you have to deal with.

"My batting had to improve - I wouldn't be standing here if it hadn't.

"Testing myself at international level will be the proof of whether I've improved as much as I needed to."
