Redknapp poised to quit Pompey

13 April 2012

Portsmouth have called a press conference for 1.15pm today amid speculation Harry Redknapp and Jim Smith could be set to depart.

The future of Redknapp has been in doubt ever since owner Milan Mandaric brought in former Panathinaikos' director of football Velimir Zajec as an executive director.

Following Zajec's appointment Redknapp admitted he was concerned about the influence the newcomer would have over football matters, while Mandaric said Zajec's role was to oversee all aspects of the club.

The situation appears to have come to a head over the last couple of days, with reports emerging assistant manager Jim Smith had already left the club.

Mandaric, currently in Dubai, refused to confirm the reports, adding only: "The club is not about individuals. The club need stability.

"It is about progressing the club forwards and all will be revealed at the news conference," he told Sky Sports News.
