Reds give Kanoute lots to think about

13 April 2012

Frederic Kanoute has plenty to think about over the summer months despite West Ham's dismissal of transfer rumours linking the French striker with Liverpool.

He said: "There have been fresh stories about Gerard Houllier wanting me to become a Liverpool player next season. It is not the first time that my name has been mentioned in connection with Liverpool and although I'm not sure how much truth there is in the rumours, it seems the story will not go away.

"I have had no contact with them this year but these stories suggest their interest remains. If this is the case, I may have a lot to think about over the summer. If any offer is interesting to me from a purely footballing rather than financial point of view, then I have to consider every possibility. I think the same applies to any player and I am no different.

"I have always made my desire to stay with West Ham clear but this desire is not blind and I cannot close my eyes to new horizons.

"I know there were stories of Liverpool's interest in me last year when Robbie Fowler went to Leeds United but they signed Nicolas Anelka on loan from PSG less than a month later, which was very quick, and the speed of the move at the time made me wonder how serious they really were in taking me to Anfield.

"I am still fully focused on my job at West Ham. I believe the team has enjoyed a great season after a terrible start and I have enjoyed being part of the side, despite a few hamstring injury setbacks.

"What will happen in the summer and next season is still a mystery to me."
