Richards guides Wigan to victory

Pat Richards guided Wigan to a comfortable 36-12 win over Harlequins as the Warriors kept up the pace at the top of the Engage Super League.

Richards claimed two tries and kicked six goals as the visitors eased to victory over a stubborn London side.

Sam Tomkins, Darrell Goulding, Michael McIlorum and Liam Farrell also crossed for Wigan, with Jamie O'Callaghan and Ben Jones-Bishop scoring the Harlequins' tries.

Wigan opend the scoring when Thomas Leuluai looked to spread the ball wide, finding Sam Tomkins who showed neat footwork to jink inside a couple of tackles and tear over the line.

Goulding stole a loose pass eight minutes into the second half and raced the length of the field to touch down under the posts for the Warriors.

The hosts threw themselves a lifeline when Jamie O'Callaghan cashed in by racing to the line after a loose kick was charged down on half-way but any thoughts of another famous comeback were quickly dashed though as Wigan claimed their third try, McIlorum rounding off a fine move involving Stuart Fielden and Paul Deacon.

Sam Tomkins then went close to another score, before the hosts bounced back again, Ben Jones-Bishop beating Tomkins to O'Callaghan's neat kick.

Wigan once again looked to have made the game safe when Richards scored an excellent try - scorching down the wing, kicking ahead and winning the race to touch down.

The visitors were now going through the gears and picking their gaps well, and it was Richards again on the scoresheet on 69 minutes, claiming a high kick as a ragged Quins defence stood watching, converting that and Farrell's further late score.
