Robinson drops hint of England return

14 April 2012

Jason Robinson has admitted he might be tempted out of international retirement if England made an approach.

Robinson called time on is England career last September in order to spend more time with his family but the 32-year-old Sale captain, who won 39 caps, insists changes to England's coaching team and the appointment of Rob Andrew as director of elite rugby could prompt him to rethink his retirement.

"I've been asked about an international comeback a few times and you never say never," he said. "There is a complete new regime in place now and it is an exciting time to be involved. I am just looking forward to playing for Sale Sharks and if a call arrives from England, who knows?"

Robinson led Sale to the Guinness Premiership title last season but his England form had tailed off prior to his decision to exit the Test arena.

In his prime he was unstoppable, scoring a try as England won the 2003 World Cup final.

England's hopes of defending their world crown have been undermined by a run of five straight defeats but Robinson insists there is still time to halt the slide.

"It's been tough since I retired from international rugby to see the team struggle," he said.

"But I am sure that England will bounce back and will be a force in next year's World Cup in France."
