Ronaldo returns but United fire blank

Cristiano Ronaldo's return failed to inspire Manchester United as their record of 12 successive home wins in the Champions League came to an end with a frustrating goalless draw against Villarreal.

United enjoyed the best chances, and Park Ji Sung had two penalty claims denied, but the Spanish side hung on.

Young defender Jonny Evans came closest for United, heading against the post, while Villarreal's striker Guille Franco also struck the woodwork with an audacious flick.
