Rovers land Colbon

12 April 2012

Liam Colbon is to become the second winger to leave Wigan for east Yorkshire after signing a two-year contract with Hull KR.

The 24-year-old former Orrell St James and Hindley ARLFC player was an ever-present this season before missing Wigan's Super League play-off win over Bradford last Friday through illness and is back in the squad for Saturday's semi-final against Catalans Dragons.

His departure from the JJB Stadium comes just a week after Mark Calderwood agreed to join Hull on a two-year deal.

"It's great to be facing a new challenge next season and I have been impressed with what (coach) Justin (Morgan) has had to say about Hull Kingston Rovers," said Colbon.

"It's exciting for me as a player to join such a progressive club and help them to succeed in their bid for silverware."

Colbon will be a direct replacement for Scotland winger Jon Steel, whose contract was not renewed.

Morgan said: "2008 has proved to be a big year for Liam. He has established a regular starting position in the first team and has gained invaluable experience."
