Rovers ready for UEFA test

12 April 2012

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes is determined his team hit the ground running in their opening UEFA Cup group match in Poland.

A seven-match unbeaten run has increased the mood of confidence in the camp ahead of the fixture against Wisla Krakow. Blackburn have shown considerable improvement since defeating Salzburg in the competition and took a point off Liverpool at Anfield at the weekend.

"If we can get three points from our first game then it sets us up nicely, " said the Rovers boss. "We would like to think we are strong enough to be one of those three teams who will go through."

He added: "If we do, who knows what will happen in latter stages. We are anxious to progress.

"But it is important to get a good start as it settles everyone down.

"We are not too disheartened by the level of our opponents in the opening game, although we will give them great respect.

"Hopefully the power we have in the side we be too much for them."

Hughes believes success in knock-out events can have a knock-on effect.

He said: "Beating Salzburg saw us kick-start our season. We were really positive when we met them and and we have taken it into Premiership matches.

"I have always said that cup competitions can help your league form. We are as confident as can be and in great shape at the moment."
