Roy won't pay King's ransom for Marlon

13 April 2012

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is expected to make an improved offer for Marlon King after Watford rejected his £3.5million bid.

Hogdson, who hopes to land the striker for much less than manager Aidy Boothroyd's £8m valuation, is also chasing Stephan Henchoz, Juventus defender Jean-Alain Boumsong and Brazilian full back Leyrielton from Goias.

Blackburn defender Henchoz should sign for a nominal fee while Boumsong is waiting for Juventus to finalise their own defensive recruits before letting him go on loan.

Aston Villa have received official confirmation from Juventus of their approach to Olof Mellberg, 30, who is out of contract in June. He is permitted to speak to the Turin club with a view to signing a pre-contract agreement.

The Villa centre half was believed to be in Italy for talks on Wednesday. Villa boss Martin O'Neill has asked Mellberg to keep him informed and is likely to press him at training today about any plans for a move.

One Villa player who will be on his way, albeit temporarily, is midfielder Isaiah Osbourne, who will join Leicester on loan.
