RUGBY LEAGUE: Murrayfield wins two-year deal to host Magic Weekend

Murrayfield will host the engage Super League’s ‘Magic Weekend’ next season after the RFL confirmed that they had sealed a two-year contract with the Scottish Rugby Union.

The agreement will see Edinburgh host seven top-flight fixtures on the weekend of May 2-3.

The pioneering event, in which an entire round of league fixtures are played at a single venue, has been staged at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium for the last two years but the RFL appear to have lost patience with the city’s hosting arrangements.

Expensive hotel bills and a lack of promotion in Cardiff are believed to have upset the RFL.
