Head coach Tony Rea hopes his players can create a legacy to emulate that of the Broncos previous Challenge Cup final appearance in 1999.

The Broncos faced Leeds Rhinos at the old Wembley in 1999 having overcome Castleford Tigers in the semi-final stages, with Steele Retchless scoring a last minute try to secure the victory. At Wembley the Broncos started well but were overcome by a strong Leeds Rhinos who ran out 52-16 winners.

“It was a great experience,” said Rea of the 1999 cup final appearance when he held the chief executive role at the Broncos.

“It was a long time ago so trying to remember it is hard. You can see that you’re still talking about it and people are still asking about it. So that in itself says to the players that’s the sort of legacy you leave. That’s the opportunity you’ve been given."

Rea confirmed he has a number of injuries worries ahead of the semi-final clash against Wigan Warriors this Saturday.

“We’ve got a few 50-50’s at the moment so we need some blokes to pass some fitness tests tomorrow, before we can even think about picking our team.

Rea confirmed that Jamie Soward is likely to return for the match having missed out on the away match against Widnes last Friday.

“Jamie’s probably gone past that, Tony Clubb, Michael Witt, Matt Cook, Dan Sarginson and Michael Robertson, they are all at 50-50.

“It’s just begun, we’ve had a think about how we want to approach the week and we’ve discussed that, we’ve had a brief chat about how we want to play.”

Wigan Warriors vs London Broncos, Leigh Sports Village, Saturday July 27, kick-off 5pm.
