Australa coach Michael Cheika believes England will have a point to prove when they tour Down Under next year.

England’s shattering early World Cup exit was confirmed when they were beaten 33-13 by the Wallabies at Twickenham.

The teams will renew hostilities during a three‑Test series next June and Cheika is braced for a backlash from the tourists.

“England will come here with plenty to play for after what happened in the pool matches over there,” he said.

Cheika was speaking on the squad’s return to Australia after they finished runners-up at the World Cup.

He added: “Our goal is to improve, not to be waiting for other teams to get worse because of this or that reason. Anyway, I don’t think New Zealand will get worse as they’ve got so much depth.”
