Danaher’s seeing a bright new dawn at London Irish

19 December 2013

Declan Danaher believes the takeover at London Irish signals a dramatic change in fortunes for a club who are second from bottom in the Aviva Premiership.

The flanker has spent 14 years at London Irish, staying loyal to the club while internationals such as Delon and Steffon Armitage (both Toulon), Alex Corbisiero (Northampton) and Jonathan Joseph (Bath) have left.

He hopes the buy‑out by millionaire Mick Crossan and his consortium could help keep England wing Marland Yarde and Australia full‑back James O’Connor at the club while the signing of South Africa prop CJ van der Linde is another positive development.

Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Sale, Danaher said: “The future looks bright. This takeover has really helped create a good feeling around the club, even though the results haven’t been what we would have hoped recently.

“I am looking forward to the next couple of years now and what we can become not just on the pitch but also off it with the new academy and stadium. I have met the businessmen and they are intelligent guys who have been successful in business and, hopefully, they can transfer that over to the club.

“Hopefully, it means we can keep hold of our young, exciting talents as it is something we have been good at in the past with the likes of Topsy Ojo, Delon Armitage and Marland Yarde.”

Wasps duo Jack Moates (knee) and Ben Jacobs (ankle) will miss the rest of the season through injury, boss Dai Young confirmed today.
