Centre Elliot Daly is on course to prove his fitness and take his place on the left wing for England’s Grand Slam clash against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday.

Forwards coach Steve Borthwick confirmed Daly was fit to take part in training today and would be involved in another session tomorrow before being given the all-clear after receiving a knock to the head in an illegal tackle by Scotland hooker Fraser Brown.

“He’s progressing really well and done really well and has a contact session this afternoon then team training tomorrow,” said Borthwick.

England will make history if they win back-to-back Slams in the Six Nations and victory would also take them ahead of New Zealand on 19 successive wins.

England could be facing New Zealand in November in a battle of the game’s top two teams but Borthwick insists that while that would be an occasion to savour, the focus is on Dublin.

He added: “We constantly strive to get better and test ourselves as much as we can.

"I am excited and the players are excited about Saturday — we are three days before a game we are all looking towards.”
