Danny Care insists England’s breakdown problems can be solved, despite a second successive defeat which has seen them replaced by Grand Slam-chasing Ireland as the second best team in the world.

England head coach Eddie Jones has admitted his misfiring players may not get that element of the game sorted out until the World Cup in Japan next year, but Care is not so pessimistic, despite Scotland and France bullying the reigning champions in this key area.

England are in danger of suffering three defeats in a row following the 22-16 reverse in Paris if Ireland triumph on Saturday at Twickenham.

But Harlequins scrum-half Care said: “It is not a major issue. I think it is something that we can fix. It’s not the end of the world and we have got another big game to get into.

"The big thing for us is our physicality and momentum.

“If you get that and you’re the ones dominating the collision area, the breakdown becomes a non-contest, but when you get double-shotted by some of their big guys it is going to be a lot easier for them. We just have to be a little bit more streetwise.”
