England are set to be without Max Malins and Ollie Lawrence when they face Canada on Saturday because of injuries suffered in the 43-29 victory over USA yesterday.

Backs Malins and Lawrence, who scored one of England’s seven tries, were forced off in the first half, stretching Eddie Jones’ 6-2 bench. Malins suffered a shoulder injury, while Lawrence failed a Head Injury Assessment. The six-day turnaround for the Canada match is not in his favour.

“Malins has an AC joint injury, so he’ll probably be out for a couple of weeks,” Jones said. “Lawrence had to go for an HIA. He couldn’t return to the game but now he looks back to full fettle.

“He’ll go through the return to play [protocols] and see if he can recover in time. It’s unlikely but we’ll wait and see.”

Jones handed out 12 debuts in the fixture, including to Marcus Smith, and has a series of other uncapped players in his squad to face Canada.
