England will hope to win the Rugby World Cup for the second time in Japan this autumn.

The 2003 champions headed into the tournament looking to banish painful memories of four years ago, when, under Stuart Lancaster, the Red Rose became the first host nation ever to be eliminated at the pool stage.

Eddie Jones' men began the current edition of rugby union's global showpiece by battling to a 35-3 bonus-point win over Tonga in Sapporo.

The Australian made 10 changes for a clash with the USA in Kobe, with a new-look side running in seven tries in a dominant 45-7 victory.

England then became the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals as Argentina were reduced to 14 men in a 39-10 defeat in Tokyo.

They topped Pool C after their final fixture against France was cancelled and declared a scoreless draw due to Typhoon Hagibis.
