Courtney Lawes and Mike Brown have been recalled to face Scotland in Saturday’s Calcutta Cup at Twickenham as England attempt to bounce back from their 19-9 loss to Ireland which killed off Grand Slam hopes.

Alex Goode drops out to allow Brown to return at full back following the concussion he suffered against Italy while Lawes has proved his fitness with Northampton and replaces Saracens George Kruis who is out of the match squad.

Geoff Parling is the second row named on the replacements bench where Tom Wood takes over from the injured Tom Croft. Parling is chosen ahead of Nick Easter who won his 50th cap against Ireland.

Captain Chris Robshaw wants a more disciplined performance against the Scots who will be desperate to bounce back – like England – from defeat. The Scots lost at home to Italy 22-19 and are on course for the Wooden Spoon as their remaining games are against England and Ireland the defending champions. Scotland haven’t won at Twickenham since 1983 and Robshaw said:”Test rugby is a real test of character and there has been a reaction this week from the squad.

“Scotland will want to end that record at Twickenham and so both teams are aiming for a reaction.”
