Nick Evans is hunting more trophies, with tomorrow’s clash at Northampton and the looming Heineken Cup match against Clermont Auvergne set to shape the rest of Harlequins’ season.
The Quins fly-half is aware of the dangers lurking at Franklin’s Gardens, with the hosts in impressive Premiership form after dropping just four points from a possible 30. Evans (above) scored 12 points in Quins’ 22-6 win over Exeter last Saturday and he will be their key weapon against a side who are second in the table.
Evens, 33, joined Quins from the Blues in New Zealand in 2008 and has since won the Premiership title, Amlin Challenge Cup and LV Cup. Although the Heineken Cup has eluded him, successive victories over Racing Metro in this season’s competition have put Quins back into contention in their pool and they are four points behind leaders Clermont, who visit Twickenham Stoop on January 11.
Evans said: “I still have a couple of years to go [in my career] and I would say that is close to being it for me. I will take a lot of pride in being able to finish my career at a club like Quins, with a good bunch of guys.
“But we still have a bit of water to go under the bridge yet and I will just keep working hard and trying to get the best out of myself for the team.”
Quins are fourth in the Premiership, despite a series of injuries and Evans’s kicking misfiring at times. He said: “The season goes up and down. You are going to have blips along the way — every team go through it.
“I am almost a perfectionist — I take a lot of pride in how I play. Sometimes you have to work hard when things aren’t going your way and I have been pleased so far.
“It is just all about me doing my job and everyone else does theirs. We have a tight group of guys who have a lot of fun.”
