Scotland’s Six Nations match against France on Sunday is in major doubt, with the whole French squad in isolation due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the camp.

The French Rugby Federation (FFR) announced on Thursday morning that a positive result for coronavirus had been detected among the playing squad after testing took place on Wednesday.

As a result, the whole squad has now gone into isolation - in accordance with health protocols - and their match against Scotland on Sunday in Paris is in major doubt.

A statement from the FFR said: “Following the RT-PCR tests carried out on Wednesday February 24 and the appearance of a positive case within the squad of players, the FFR Medical Committee met this morning and decided to suspend training today.

“The entire group is in isolation in accordance with health protocol. The FFR is in close contact with the Six Nations Committee.”

Only on Wednesday, there had been hope the match between France and Scotland would take place.

France’s head coach, Fabien Galthie, had tested positive for Covid-19 last week, and was followed by 10 players and two members of staff.

France, however, returned to training this week and they revealed on Wednesday morning that tests carried out on Tuesday had received no new positive results.

That led tournament organisers, the Six Nations, to declare Sunday’s match in Paris was scheduled to go ahead.

They said in a statement on Wednesday: “Further to a meeting of the Six Nations Testing Oversight Group (TOG) this morning to review the latest tests results of the French Squad, the Six Nations confirm the plans to stage the France v Scotland match as originally scheduled this coming Sunday.

“We continue to monitor the situation very closely and are in regular contact with both unions.”

The match, however, is now in serious doubt following the latest positive test.
