Gethin Jenkins winning fitness fight for Wales but Matthew Rees struggles

10 April 2012

Wales are hopeful that prop Gethin Jenkins will return to face Scotland on Saturday but fellow Lion, Matthew Rees, is battling to play any part in this season's Six Nations.

Both missed the 30-17 defeat against England two days ago - Jenkins with calf muscle trouble and hooker Rees due to a recurrent groin problem.

Head coach Warren Gatland is due to name his team for the Scotland clash tomorrow.

"At this moment in time, it is looking good (for Gethin)," said Wales team physiotherapist Mark Davies.

Rees, though, could require surgery to resolve his injury and has no chance of being involved this week.

Davies added: "We need to allow it to settle down. It is about what is the best option for Matthew."
