Marland Yarde is attempting to prove he deserves to be in England’s Rugby World Cup squad by helping Harlequins finish a disappointing season in style.

A preliminary 46-man squad will be announced next month and Yarde is battling to be in it along with fellow wings Jonny May, Jack Nowell, Semesa Rokoduguni, Anthony Watson, Christian Wade and Chris Ashton.

Having missed out on the Six Nations, Yarde has ground to make up during Quins’ final three Premiership matches, starting with tomorrow’s match at Sale.

“I have gone down the order a bit, so I have to produce my best performances every week,” said Yarde, who won the last of his seven caps against Australia five months ago.

“If I am [doing that] then I will be in with a shout. All I can do is make sure I am working hard. Playing in the World Cup has always been my goal.”

Quins have been in the play-offs for the last four years but are eighth in the table and focusing on a late push for a Rugby Champions Cup spot.

FIXTURES — Tonight: Bath v Lon Irish (7.45, BT Sport 2). Tomorrow: Sale v Harlequins (2), Gloucester v Newcastle (3), Leicester v Lon Welsh (3), Northampton v Saracens (3.15, BT Sport 1). Sunday: Wasps v Exeter (2, BT Sport 2).
