Saracens have been warned that their latest big-name recruit will cause them plenty of problems when the European champions travel to Scarlets on Sunday.

The club this week confirmed the signing of Wales wing Liam Williams, who is part of a turbo-charged Scarlets back division that will be hoping to make the most of facing a Saracens team hit by injuries and suspensions.

Chris Wyles has been a key figure in Sarries’ rise to become the most dominant force in European rugby and the wing said of his counterpart: “Liam is an outstanding, high-quality attacker. We know Scarlets have a dangerous back division and to go away in Europe and win anywhere is difficult, but these are the challenges you want and need in this competition as you move through the pool games.”

Wyles, who will be making his 50th European Champions Cup appearance for Saracens in Wales, added: “Our journey in Europe has been a case of building year on year on what we experienced and working out how we could be competitive in such a difficult competition.

“We are the result of all those lessons and while I am not saying we have got everything right, we did pretty well last season. However, our game is evolving and the squad is getting better.

“My 50 games has been a hell of a journey in Europe and it was amazing to have that extreme high last season of winning the European Cup final by beating Racing having, in the past, come away from matches against French teams wondering if we were ever going to win those big games.”

Saracens lead Pool 3 by eight points from three-times champions Toulon, with Scarlets another two points further back, but Williams has made it clear he will not be holding back against the team he will join next season, saying: “We still have it all to play for and I will continue to give my all in the Scarlets jersey.”

The Londoners will be without captain Brad Barritt, who received a three-week ban for a high tackle against Exeter as well as the injured England quartet of Billy and Mako Vunipola, Alex Goode and George Kruis.
