Saracens will take part in a six-match pre-season tournament with their Championship rivals Ealing and Doncaster – which should also provide Sarries’ England contingent with a Six Nations tune-up.

The Championship – which has been split into two pools – does not begin until March 6 so the three teams have come up with the Trailfinders Challenge Cup, which is due to start next weekend when Ealing host Sarries, who were relegated from the Premiership last season for salary cap infringements.

The teams will play each other home and away across six weekends, with every match live-streamed.

The likes of Owen Farrell, Jamie George and Maro Itoje looked like they could go into England’s Six Nations opener against Scotland at Twickenham on February 6 having not played for two months, but this tournament should provide them with some valuable game-time.
