Saints lift Eastmond suspension

St Helens have lifted their suspension on England half-back Kyle Eastmond after warning him over his future conduct.

The 21-year-old was suspended nine days ago pending an investigation in allegations of serious misconduct, which were based on complaints from fans about offensive gestures he made to them during and after Saints' shock 27-16 home defeat by Harlequins a fortnight ago.

St Helens on Friday pronounced Eastmond guilty of the offence and say the matter has been dealt with internally.

A club statement read: "Following an internal investigation, St Helens RFC have found Kyle Eastmond guilty of serious misconduct.

"The case centred on rude and offensive gestures to fans at the game against Harlequins on March 11. The matter has been dealt with in accordance with the club's internal disciplinary procedures and the player has also been warned about his future conduct.

"As a result, Kyle's suspension from the club is now lifted. St Helens RFC will not be making any further comment on this matter."

Eastmond is now free to resume training and, in theory, will be available for selection by coach Royce Simmons.

However, the Oldham-born player has not been included in the squad for their Engage Super League game against Bradford, and realistically is unlikely to play for them again.

Out of contract at the end of the season, he has already signed a three-year deal with Bath and may now seek to negotiate an early release from Saints.

St Helens have already begun to look for a long-term successor and Simmons was highly encouraged by the performance of temporary replacement Jonny Lomax in last week's 30-16 win at Leeds.
