Sam Allardyce should discover whether he will continue as West Ham manager at a board meeting a week on Friday.

There have been calls from fans to sack Allardyce and yesterday the manager met co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan and vice-chairman Karren Brady for two hours of talks.

Allardyce has achieved the targets set by the board, taking the club into the Premier League at the first attempt and keeping them there for two seasons.

However, during the talks it was made clear to Allardyce there was a need to play more attractive football and there were discussions about the idea of appointing an attacking coach.

The board are split over whether to stick with Allardyce, who has one season left on his £3million-a-year deal. The break until next week will give the board the time to explore the viability of potential successors should they decide to sack their manager.

Throughout the speculation, Allardyce has appeared bullish and he has already discussed potential transfer targets with the board.

Meanwhile, Joe Cole has left West Ham after his contract expired. “I want to compete and I just want to play more,” said the midfielder, 32.
