Sariska in fine form ahead of Oaks tilt

Simon Milham13 April 2012

Sariska seems certain to go off favourite for the Oaks as bookmakers cut her odds after sparkling in her final piece of work before the Epsom Classic.

Her big-race jockey Jamie Spencer was in the saddle and, after being given a lead by Hayley Turner on a companion, smoothly moved up to finish about a length in front hard on the bridle.

The Michael Bell-trained filly produced a convincing victory in the Musidora Stakes at York last month and Spencer said: "She is fine and we just want some safe, decent ground at Epsom."

Turner said connections "couldn't be more pleased" with the filly's preparation after going a mile on the watered gallop.

She added: "She is just peaking at the right time and the only filly I'm worried about is Henry Cecil's Midday."

Meanwhile, Darryll Holland's 21-day suspension has opened the door for Wayne Lordan to ride Zafisio in Sunday's French Derby at Chantilly.

The colt finished runner-up on his last start in the German 2,000 Guineas, but trainer Roger Curtis is praying for rain. He said: "They are expecting it to be good to firm. If it does go that way, we could be up against it."
