Sarries need propping up

Saracens are scouring the rugby world for international props who can solve their front-row worry in the build-up to Saturday's Heineken Cup opener with Toulouse.

Sarries need cover for Julian White, the England prop, who successfully underwent neck surgery on Monday. Sarries must register a new prop by noon tomorrow.

Francois Pienaar, the Sarries chief executive, has contacted internationals from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, but there are two problems. He said: "We are asking those players if they can come over for a month rather than offering a full season's contract. The whole question of salaries is also important because we are operating under a £1.8 million cap."
