Sarries tie up Harris move

14 April 2012

Saracens have completed the signing of Dan Harris, who has been released by Sale Sharks.

The 27-year-old centre underwent shoulder surgery last season and has been training with the club during the summer as he continues his rehabilitation.

Harris looked set to retire from professional rugby because of the injury but after seeking a second medical opinion he had the surgery and is now back in training and looking forward to the new season.

Saracens head coach Rod Kafer said: "Dan has been training with us throughout the summer as he continues his rehabilitation after shoulder surgery. We told him that if he could get himself fit, he would be considered for a contract and we have both reached an agreeable deal.

"He's a hard-working player and we're pleased to have him as part of the squad. We're all looking forward to seeing him back to full fitness."

The High Wycombe-born centre started his career with Bedford before making the move to Sale Sharks where his powerful running earned him a call to the England Under-21 side.

"I'm delighted to have this second chance," explained Harris. "I've been treated really well by Saracens and have had the best surgeons and treatment I could have wished for.

"It's a new club and a new start for me. I'm really looking forward to working with Rod Kafer. He played in my position so there is a lot I can learn from him and I'm thankful he's given me the chance."

"I'd practically retired from the game and even went skiing in February which is something professional rugby players rarely get the chance to do.

"I'd been told I would have to quit, but I went to get three or four other opinions and they all said I could play again.

"When I got the call from Rod inviting me to come down it gave me a lift and made me even more determined to get back into action. I'm still a little way off being fully fit, but the physical and mental edge is coming back and I'm delighted to be back involved with rugby again."
