Schumacher in race of champions

14 April 2012

Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher will test his skill against the leading lights from other forms of motorsport after agreeing to compete in the end-of-season Race of Champions.

The December event moves from its traditional home in the Canary Islands to Paris' Stade de France and will pitch Schumacher into battle on a rally-style course.

World rally championship leader Sebastien Loeb is the only other driver confirmed for the event at this stage but with legends such as Valentino Rossi, Jeff Gordon and Tom Kristensen having competed in the past, he can expect a real challenge.

"I am really looking forward to competing in the Race of Champions for the first time," said the Ferrari driver.

"I have seen it on TV before and it looks like a lot of fun."

Event organiser Michele Mouton, the first woman to win a world rally, added: "We are thrilled that Michael Schumacher has accepted our invitation to compete.

"The world's most talented rally drivers will not want to be beaten by a circuit racer, even if he is a six-times world champion.

"And with a whole host of other top names soon to be announced, I think we have the makings of what promises to be the most exciting Race of Champions yet."
