Seamus Heffernan backs Yeats

13 April 2012

Jockey Seamus Heffernan thinks it is too early to write off Yeats after the three-times Ascot Gold Cup winner flopped at Navan.

Aidan O'Brien's superstar stayer is due to bid for a fourth consecutive triumph at the Royal meeting on 18 June.

But he failed to show his old brilliance on his seasonal debut, finishing a remote sixth behind Alandi in the Vintage Crop Stakes and is now 7-2 from 6-4 with Coral for the Gold Cup.

However, Heffernan is convinced Yeats will still be a force to be reckoned with at Ascot. He said: "It just wasn't a go day for him. I'm sure Aidan will have him right for the big day that matters."
