Sheringham heads back to Tottenham

13 April 2012

Teddy Sheringham has completed his move back to Tottenham from Manchester United.

The 35-year-old striker, who netted the final England goal in their 4-0 win over Mexico at Pride Park, has signed what is believed to be a two-year contract after leaving White Hart Lane in 1997.

After failing to win a trophy in his first season at Old Trafford, Sheringham has since won three successive Premiership winners medals and scored goals in the 1999 FA and Champions League finals as United recorded their historic Treble.

He signed a one-year extension to his original contract last summer and rewarded United with a string of outstanding displays which saw him with both PFA and Footballer Writers' player of the year.

However, it was not enough to secure the contract he wanted with Sir Alex Ferguson's men and with the arrival of £19million front-man Ruud van Nistelrooy, Sheringham has decided to head back to his native London.
