Six Nations blow for Cusiter

Double blow: Chris Cusiter is stretchered off and will miss the Six Nations
14 April 2012

Scotland scrum half Chris Cusiter has been ruled out of the Six Nations after having surgery on the shoulder he dislocated during Saturday's 34-22 victory over the Pacific Islanders.

Cusiter was injured midway through the first half when he was targeted by Tongan flanker Viliami Vaki seconds after being sent flying by Samoan hooker Mahonri Schwalger.

After tackling Cusiter, Vaki continued driving him towards the touchline before plunging him into the turf, with the ball 30 yards away.

Mike Blair, who replaced Cusiter, said: "Chris took two hits. They didn't seem to be dangerous but, if you slow it down they look worse. There was an opportunity for the guy to pull out of the tackle."

Scotland coach Frank Hadden said: "I feel heartbroken for Chris."

Back row forward Johnnie Beattie will miss this week's game with Australia after sustaining ankle ligament damage but he may be fit for the Six Nations.

Tries by Marcus Di Rollo, David Callam, Kelly Brown and Andrew Henderson helped the Scots take a 31-5 half-time lead before they eased up after the break and allowed the Islanders to run in three tries of their own.

Allen shines

Anthony Allen, discarded by England, scored a superb solo try as top-of-the-table Gloucester beat Wasps 27-21 in the Guinness Premiership.

In a move that could be significant for England, former Great Britain rugby league captain Andy Farrell, playing at inside centre for Saracens, scored his first try since switching codes, helping to seal the 35-13 win at Northampton.
