Skipper Giggs still has role to play for Wales

14 April 2012

Ryan Giggs wants to carry on playing for Wales, even though their World Cup dreams have been shattered.

He will captain the side again tonight as Wales try to regain some pride against Austria, who beat them 2-0 on Saturday in Cardiff.

Giggs says his motivation for carrying on is helping a new generation of players onto the scene. He is happy to continue as captain as long as boss John Toshack wants him to do the job.

Before tonight's Group Six clash in Vienna, Giggs said: "Hopefully I can do the job long-term. This has been a special spell for me and the greatest honour you can have is to captain your country.

"I enjoyed Saturday, even though we lost. Long-term it is up to John but I am looking forward to doing it again."

John Hartson, who has an ankle problem, is likely to be on the bench for Wales.
