Smith nearing Utd switch

Alan Smith looks to be heading to Old Trafford, with Manchester United reported to have increased their offer for the England striker to £8million.

Everton have made a £7m offer but Smith is believed to favour a move to United, with the prospect of Champions League football next season.

United have already had bids of £3.5m and £5.5m turned down by Leeds.
