Solid return gives Hewitt perfect start

13 April 2012

Lleyton Hewitt was satisfied with his return to action as he began his summer hard-court campaign with a win at the ATP Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington DC.

The Australian, who had not played since losing to Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, enjoyed a 7-5 6-2 victory over American wild card Donald Young.

"It's always hard after a few weeks off," said Hewitt. "It's nice to get through in straight sets."

Russia's Mikhail Youzhny required three sets to beat another American, Robert Kendrick, but eventually prevailed 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.

Philipp Petzschner of Germany fought back to overcome Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
