Southgate waits for Villa

13 April 2012

Gareth Southgate could stay at Aston Villa after admitting he is willing to discuss the club's future with manager John Gregory.

The England defender went on the transfer list at his own request last summer and he has been in outstanding form despite failing to get the move he wanted.

Southgate, who has been at Villa for six years, said: "Nobody from the club has actually sat me down and asked, 'What do you want to do? Why do you want to move on? What are your aims?'

"I would love to sit down with them and find out what direction we are going in and how we are going to bridge the gap between us and the teams above us.

"I am more than willing to sit down and listen to what they have to say."
