Hockey teams tell Orient: Get off our pitch

Marco Giacomelli5 April 2012

Britain's hockey players have hit out at the idea of Leyton Orient taking over the Olympic Hockey Centre after London 2012.

The League One side have expressed an interest in moving to the arena when it is downsized and relocated to Eton Manor post-2012 as they look to mitigate the impact of West Ham becoming tenants at the Olympic Stadium.

Jonty Clarke, forward for the men's team, said: "I know that England and Great Britain Hockey are very, very passionate about the future of our sport. They see this as a huge opportunity. Hockey doesn't really have a home right now."

Alex Danson who plays in the same position for the women's team, said: "It would be a great loss to hockey and to our legacy."

It was announced yesterday that the Olympic hockey will be played on a revolutionary blue pitch. Danson added: "It provides a really strong contrast for players against the white ball and white lines."
