A never-say-die attitude can guide Britain to glory in the sevens, according to James Rodwell after the team’s sudden-death drama in their quarter-final win against Argentina.

The two sides were scoreless at full-time so the match went to extra-time with the next scorer booking their place in the last four.

Tom Mitchell had a chance to put them through with a penalty but missed, before Dan Bibby produced the only try and points of the game to seal the win.

And ahead of the semi-final against South Africa tonight, Rodwell said: “It is a real big day for us. We came together 10 weeks ago and we are playing our hearts out for each other. The never-say-die attitude was brilliant.”

As for the game itself, Rodwell added: “That was pretty tight. Credit to Argentina. They put out a real tough match and it could have gone either way.

"That is what makes sevens so special and why it should be an Olympic sport.”

In the other semi-final, Fiji will face Japan, who started their campaign by beating New Zealand.
