Defending champions Team GB set up a hockey quarter-final against Spain by beating debutants Ireland 2-0 in their final group game.

GB - who beat Holland in the final in Rio and could face them again in the last four - are now three wins away from another gold.

Susannah Townsend opened the scoring for Team GB in the second quarter from a penalty corner, after the initial shot was saved by Irish goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran.

Hannah Martin then scored her third goal of the tournament after Ellie Rayer found her at the back post.

Ireland have been eliminated, with India taking Group A’s fourth and final qualification spot, having beaten South Africa 4-3.

Nicola Daly did manage to draw a save from Maddie Hinch but the GB keeper remained largely untroubled throughout the match.

GB face Spain on Monday, with the winners playing either Holland or New Zealand in the semi-final.
