Tower Bridge dresses up in Olympic rings to mark a month to go

Rings of confidence: Boris Johnson and Lord Coe at Tower Bridge

Giant Olympic rings were hung from Tower Bridge today — signifying one month to go until the Games begin.

London Mayor Boris Johnson and Games chief Seb Coe clasped hands on a Thames barge as the hoops were lowered into position.

As preparations for the opening ceremony continue, Games chiefs are focusing on “dressing” London before hundreds of thousands of visitors descend on the capital.

The rings are retractable to allow ships to pass through the bridge.

At St Pancras station today, where another set of rings has been placed, commuters were treated to a performance by the London Chamber Orchestra and 60 schoolchildren playing Track to Track — a piece inspired by the shuttle train journey to Stratford, which from today is renamed the Javelin Train for the duration of the Games.
