Bradley Wiggins' first class performance has got the stamp of approval - with the Royal Mail producing a commemorative stamp in his honour.

Wiggins claimed the gold in the individual time trial at Hampton Court to take his total of Olympic medals to seven, one more than Sir Steve Redgrave.

The achievement coincided with the Royal Mail deciding to produce a stamp for every British gold medal winner overnight.

The Wiggo stamp shows the cycling superhero clad in his Team GB kit and bears the words Gold Medal Winner Bradley Wiggins Cycling: Road Men's Time Trial.

Earlier, Royal Mail announced that Helen Glover and Heather Stanning's historic win to become the first British women to take an Olympic rowing gold will also be celebrated on a special stamp.

The pair also become the first all-female sports team to appear on a Royal Mail stamp.

The special stamp, which features an image of the golden girls smiling and waving to supporters following their historic win, will be on sale in more than 500 Post Office branches, including in Stanning's home town of Penzance, Cornwall, and Reading, Berkshire, where the pair live and train, from lunchtime tomorrow.

A fleet of 90 Royal Mail vehicles will deliver the stamps across the UK, while their feat will also be marked by a red post box being painted gold in both Penzance and Glover's home town of Lossiemouth, Moray.

An additional 4,700 post offices will receive the Gold Medal stamps within a week.

Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene said: "We're delighted to be issuing these very special gold medal stamps to recognise our Olympic champion UK athletes.

"This is a first for Royal Mail and we are proud to play our part in celebrating the many victories this summer.

"We will be printing millions of stamps to enable customers to celebrate these sporting successes and I'm sure they will be treasured as unique souvenirs of Team GB's victories for years to come."

Customers can also purchase the stamps from tomorrow at www.royalmail.com/goldmedalstamps.
