Spurs' Kanoute boost

Tottenham claim that new £4million striker Freddie Kanoute should be fit for the start of the new season.

The Frenchman underwent tests on his groin injury yesterday following Standard Sport's exclusive that he was pulled out of his first training session with his new club.

Spurs hurriedly arranged for Kanoute to have checks on the injury but fears that it was a recurrence of the groin problem that sidelined him for much of last season with former club West Ham were premature.

Spurs confirmed their latest acquisition had suffered a training ground setback but his check-up revealed no major damage.

Glenn Hoddle said: "Thankfully it's not too bad and should settle down quite quickly.

"Freddie has suffered a slight tweak to the abductor muscle which will hold him back three to four days."
