Spurs shock revolution

Daniel Levy today revealed Tottenham are prepared to consider moving to the new Wembley Stadium if they are forced to leave White Hart Lane.

In a bold and wide-ranging interview with Standard Sport, the Tottenham chairman conceded that he had "very little confidence" that the area around Spurs' ground would be regenerated and that as a result the club may leave their 104-yearold home.

While his first choice is to stay at a redeveloped White Hart Lane, Levy said the club were now preparing to investigate all other scenarios, ranging from the search for a new home in or outside the borough to the possibility of a ground share.

He said that in football's current uncertain financial climate he would rule out nothing - even the once unthinkable possibility of sharing a neutral venue with Arsenal. At the moment, no club would be allowed to move to the new Wembley but amid the financial uncertainty surrounding the project there has been increased speculation that restrictions over an anchor tenant could be lifted.

"Clearly, the idea of utilising an existing stadium or one which has already been planned has some appeal," he said. Asked if he would look at Wembley as an alternative if progress towards improved transportation failed, Levy said: "Yes".

Arsenal are committed to moving to their new stadium at Ashburton Grove, but the cost of that scheme has risen by £100million, throwing a question mark over the project's viability.

Levy said: "If it were a neutral venue (not Ashburton Grove), then it's something that we would consider - it's something you'd have thought both clubs would at least consider. But on something as emotive as that, we
would have to get a real feel from our fans as to whether that would be something they'd be prepared to accept."

Spurs fans are to play a critical part in the discussions surrounding White Hart Lane's future.

The club plan to seek their views on the prospect of a move by conducting a survey on the club website in the near future and also in the Boxing Day match programme.
