Sri Lanka's new envoy faces trial

Sri Lanka's cricket board have appointed Thilanga Sumathipala, who is on trial for alleged complicity in an immigration fraud, as their international envoy.

Sumathipala presided over the board for three terms before standing down in April.

He was remanded in custody in January, and released on bail in June, after being accused of helping Dhammika Amarasinghe, a man implicated in more than 28 murder cases, to obtain a forged passport and travel to London as a cricket board guest in 1999. Amarasinghe was shot dead in January.
